As a student, I was able to meet with my professors to discuss learning points and career path development. As a faculty member, the community embraces this culture for collaboration among interdisciplinary programs and projects.
What year did you join the Midwestern University faculty?
2008 (AZCOM ’04)
What are your current research interests or areas of scholarly focus?
Clinical topics in Osteopathic Principles and Practice. One of my recent projects involves a student poster presentation, "An Osteopathic Approach to Asthma Management with Adjunctive Foam-Roller Exercises: A Case Presentation of a 69-year-old Female with Chronic Asthma Exacerbations."
What do you find most rewarding about working with students at Midwestern?
The University culture here is truly an open-door environment. As a student, I was able to meet with my professors to discuss learning points and career path development. As a faculty member, the community embraces this culture for collaboration among interdisciplinary programs and projects. Faculty are genuinely interested in supporting cross-departmental roles and improving the quality of education for everyone involved.
What’s one lesson you hope students carry with them into their professional lives?
The most significant lesson is to find your grit by embracing the challenge of things that are difficult by forming lifelong learning strategies that lead towards resilience.
What’s something you wish more people understood about your field or profession?
Osteopathic family physicians represent a specialty of comprehensive medicine that plays an important role in disease prevention, identification, and management. Many patients don't need a specialist for each organ system. Starting with a medical home in primary care can improve outcomes and continuity of care.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not on campus?
My favorite things to do off campus include exercise and travel. I enjoy taking dance and Pilates classes, and each year my family plans to travel somewhere new.
